The storytelling legacy of the historic Silk Road has long been associated with the vast body of myths produced by our cultures. A myth can be a fascinating window into the history, values, beliefs, and traditions of a community and era. It also enables us to reflect upon the myths and legends of our own families and communities.
Our Myths to Drama program introduces classical myths from Silk Road cultures to elementary school students (grades 2-5) using storytelling, art, dance, music, and food over the course of eight sessions.
At the end of each residency, students reimagine the myths and relay them in their own words. Our goal is to inspire young people to be curious about culture, history, and the world around them.
For Educators:
Myths to Drama helps to fulfill Illinois’ TEAACH Act (Teaching Equitable Asian American Community History) curriculum requirement in the classroom.
